The announcement this week from Mayor Sylvester Turner, who says he s setting aside $115 million dollars in federal pandemic aid to boost firefighter compensation and make the department more pay competitive with counterparts in other large Texas cities.

Gov. Abbott Cancels $300 per week federal unemployment benefit

The WYP panel talks about the recent move by Texas Governor Gregg Abbott to eliminate the additional $300 per week aid in pandemic unemployment relief, believing that by doing so more people will get back to work and move the Texas economy to recover faster.

Effective June 26th unemployed folks in the Lone Star State will no longer have access to that extra 1200 bucks per month from Uncle Sam.

Here in the Lone Star State, Republican lawmakers first in the Texas Senate and this week in the Texas House, have voted to dramatically turn back the legal timetable on that decision.
If signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott - no abortion will be allowed after the detection of a fetal heartbeat which we are told appears as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. This week outnumbered Texas democrats offered ferocious opposition.
