Development Charges – the cost of growth – could jump by 30 percent for single-family residential units as the Town of Saugeen Shores reviews its bylaw governing charges for capital growth-related costs for services – roads, water, wastewater, public works, recreation, police and fire protection – so taxpayers don’t foot the whole bill. Development Charges (DCs) are rolled into the cost of residential and non-residential units.
Town of Saugeen Shores consultant, John Murphy from DFA Infrastructure International Inc., set the stage for the DC review in a May 25 presentation, via Zoom, to the committee of the whole by providing some numbers, the “denominators” council could use to calculate new DC rates.
