New Online LGBTQ Magazine Details Bar Reopenings and Pride Parties Happening Again

New Online LGBTQ Magazine Details Bar Reopenings and Pride Parties Happening Again In-person nightlife events are starting up again, and a new online weekly event listing site called Fa-Word details all the events and reopenings that are here and queer in SF. We’re pretty much all fully vaccinated now, and this weekend seems to be the return of big in-person dance parties and club nights. Make Out Room has a dance party tonight. The Rickshaw Stop is doing a parklet dance party Saturday, and Cancholas Bar and Valencia Room both have Carnaval parties Saturday. The Lookout has a Memorial Day party, and that’s just a small sampling of the weekend’s party fare. How do we know of these events? Because we scrolled Facebook s event listings, a platform that absolutely sucks ass since the Facebook redesign, and even pulling up links for those five events was an extraordinarily frustrating process that made us angrily shout the lord’s name in vein multiple times.

Parklet Nails Snag Valencia Street Bar Into Twitter Dust-Up, Nails Now Removed

Parklet Nails Snag Valencia Street Bar Into Twitter Dust-Up, Nails Now Removed The social media pitchforks came out when Valencia Room was accused of using sharp nails to deter loitering in their parklet, but the nails are now removed and the bar insists vandals did the nailing. Mission District nightclub Valencia Room took some online razzing over its pastel neon sign when it opened last year, but that’s nothing compared to the sharp criticism they’re getting for some exposed, pointed-up nails applied to their parklet benches. The nails were spotted and posted to Twitter Monday as an “An SF horror story” of anti-homeless hostile architecture. But the Chronicle spoke with Valencia Room’s manager Peter Tam, who said this was the work of vandals, and he added that “We sent someone there immediately to resolve it.”

An S.F. bar says it was vandalized. A homelessness expert cries foul [San Francisco Chronicle] Dec. 23 A Mission bar is at the center of a controversy over exposed nails in its parklet in what one critic is calling an affront to homeless people. The bar says it was vandalized. When UC Berkeley professor Colette Auerswald passed the Valencia Room on Sunday, she was shocked to see nails on the seats of the bar’s outdoor dining parklet in what she said was an obvious attempt to dissuade people from sleeping or resting in it. “It wasn’t subtle,” Auerswald said of the nails jutting up from the seats. “It was not only hostile but dangerous.”
