Wyoming Arts Council announces new Native Art Fellowship

(Statewide, WY) – The Wyoming Arts Council is pleased to announce a new initiative: a Native Art Fellowship. For years, the Wyoming Arts Council has hosted annual fellowships for the visual, literary, and performing arts that are merit-based and juried by professionals from outside the state. Advertisement This year, the Arts Council is also offering a Native Art Fellowship. Structured similarly to the other fellowships, the Native Art Fellowship is an unrestricted $3,000 award that is open to Native artists based within Wyoming, across any artistic discipline or medium (visual, literary, performing, folk & traditional, etc.) This fellowship is designed to raise the profiles of the highly talented Native artists in Wyoming and celebrate their artistry.

Arts Mentoring Project Grant Aimed To Preserve Folk & Traditional Arts In Wyoming

Wyoming Arts Council/Wyoming Folklife Collection The Wyoming Arts Council is accepting applications for Folk & Traditional Arts Mentoring project grants, for the fiscal year 2022. The goal of the Folk & Traditional Arts Program is to identify, preserve, and honor folk and traditional arts throughout the state. Joshua Chrysler, who is a Folklorist and Health & Wellness Specialist at the Wyoming Arts Council, said a classic Wyoming is the large ranching community present in the state. And there are a lot of traditional art forms associated with ranching: saddle making, leather carving, horsehair hitching, all of these are traditional art forms that are important to the communities from which they grow out of, said Chrysler.

Credit Wyoming Arts Council March is Youth Art Month. As a nationally observed annual celebration, it is designed to highlight the value of art education for all children, while boosting support for quality art programs in schools. This year s national theme is Art Connects Us , and is meant to recognize the benefits of students participating in arts education, including music, dance, creative writing, poetry, theater, and the visual arts. Mary Billiter is the Arts Education Specialist for the Wyoming Arts Council. She said because of the pandemic, so many art activities had to change the way they looked. She explained how that amplified the meaning of connection through the arts.
