In a Facebook post shortly after she accepted the award, Stone said she cried when she read the nomination letters that talked about her accomplishments on so many different levels. There’s a common theme in those letters submitted by fellow researchers, scientists, landowners and other folks who hoped that Stone would be honored this year.
