Tom, where did the pursuit first start . Reporter it is such an odd case. Initially it started way out in the east bay. Lets take a look at the video that we shot. Before noon on westbound 580, a dublin district chp officer got a bolo to look out for a silver chevy impala being driven erratically. The pursuit went from the dublin district right through the san leandro district and into the oakland district to just past where 580 intersects with highway 24. The driver, in attempting to get away, got wedged between a transit shuttlebus and the median barrier. The chp then blocked him in and the driver ran into the chp car and the bus trying to get away. It was only actually a matter of seconds before officers decided that they were not going to initiate a chase. Our officers say five minutes later, two miles away, the suspect ran a red lights slamming into a lyft car. I heard a big crash. Reporter this neighbor ran out and discovered the lyft car with two people in the back. It was just late. 1 am in the morning. From what we saw, it looked pretty bad. Reporter the santa clara woman was in the back of the rideshare car. Police say that she died later sunday morning just a few days after her 28th birthday.
