SERT responds to report of shots fired in Portland neighborhood

The Portland Police Bureau s (PPB) Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to a North Portland neighborhood after someone possibly involved in a shooting ran into a garage on Thursday morning. Officers set up a perimeter around the location, in the area of North Houghton Street and North Fiske Avenue, just north of Lombard Street. After a search of the home and surrounding block, police did not find the suspect. Officers recovered a gun, but PPB said it s unclear if the gun was used in the shooting. Portland police said there are no known shooting victims.

In the first incident, around 4:48 a.m., police say they responded to Northeast 148th Avenue at Halsey Street in the Wilkes neighborhood, where they say a person was wounded and taken to a hospital for treatment. Officers canvassed for witnesses and searched the area for evidence. There is no suspect information, according to a news release.

Portland Police Bureau officers arrested a man who allegedly stole items from two storage units in Northwest Portland and then fled by vehicle before crashing his car and ditching a gun in the snow. Travis John Hendon, 35, faces two counts each of first-degree burglary and being a felon in possession of a gun, plus one count of first- and second-degree theft, plus hit and run. According to a probable cause affidavit, the thefts occurred at Central Self Shortage, 1323 N.W. 16th Ave., where Hendon previously had rented a unit but was evicted.
