SPRINGFIELD â A woman was shot multiple times and killed late Friday morning in Springfield.
Springfield Police responded to a shots fired call just before noon in the 200 block of North Lincoln Avenue.
According to police, a man and woman were on the ground in the front yard of a home when local officers arrived. The man was holding the woman with a gun lying nearby. Officers allege that the man â identified as 43-year-old Jahsen Thomas â refused to comply with their orders when they attempted to negotiate with him.
In response, a group of officers approached Thomas from behind, discharging bean bag rounds as they took him into custody.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a fire near 18th and Spring Meadow Drive around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The residents made the call, and reported a fire had started on the rear deck of the home. A total of five occupants were inside the home, and all evacuated safely on their own before crews arrived.
LFR said when crews arrived, there was also heavy fire spreading from the back side of the home and through the front door of the home. Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.

Springfield police are investigating a fatal shooting.
It happened around 11:40am Friday in the 200 block of North Lincoln, where responding officers found an injured female and a suspect holding a handgun. After a period of negotiation, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.
Schools in the area were briefly locked down until the incident was resolved.The names of those involved and a possible motive in the incident were not immediately known.

Springfield police used bean bag rounds to distract an armed murder suspect and ultimately take him into custody Friday.
Officers were called to the 200 block of North Lincoln for a shots fired report and found a female victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Police say 43-year-old Jahsen Thomas was holding the woman in his arms with the gun next to him and would not comply with their commands.
After police deployed the bean bag rounds, Thomas was arrested and is facing charges including first degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene… an autopsy is planned for Monday.
