Kentucky State Police Troopers along with crews from the Lily Fire and Rescue responded to a call at a home on Spring Cut Circle this week to help ambulance crews already on scene. Three people were suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. Emergency responders found Tony and Darlene Ragland along with their six-year-old grandson in the home. All were transported to local hospitals. Investigators say 61-year old Darlene was pronounced dead at the hospital. Tony and the grandson were treated and released at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Troopers say the power went out in the home and the family had put a generator in the garage with no ventilation. State troopers are taking this moment to remind people about the dangers of carbon monoxide as many still wait for power. Officials say a case of carbon monoxide poisoning has left one person dead and two others injured in Laurel County. Lily Fire and Rescue crews responded to a home on Spring Cut Circle to help ambulance crews already on scene. Officials say the group, which included at least one child, was using a fuel-operated generator in a garage without ventilation following a power outage. All three were taken to local hospitals. Two were later taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. The other was pronounced dead at Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin. Kentucky State Police is investigating the incident.

Officials in Jackson County say they’re opening a warming center for those without power at a local elementary school. Jackson County Judge-Executive Shane Gabbard announced the move in a post on his Facebook page Tuesday morning. In the post, Gabbard said the center will be at Tyner Elementary School and he has requested National Guard troops to come help transport those who need it to the school. At last report thousands of people remain without power with another round of winter weather coming. Gabbard declared a state of emergency Monday night. Meanwhile Jackson Energy officials are warning customers of scams during the extended outage. In one instance a customer received a call at 3am advising them that they were with Jackson Energy and that they needed to leave their house immediately and go to Tyner Elementary as they were going to be without power for 5-7 days.
