Jackson County Judge-Executive Shane Gabbard announced the move in a post on his Facebook page Tuesday morning. In the post, Gabbard said the center will be at Tyner Elementary School and he has requested National Guard troops to come help transport those who need it to the school. At last report thousands of people remain without power with another round of winter weather coming. Gabbard declared a state of emergency Monday night. Meanwhile Jackson Energy officials are warning customers of scams during the extended outage. In one instance a customer received a call at 3am advising them that they were with Jackson Energy and that they needed to leave their house immediately and go to Tyner Elementary as they were going to be without power for 5-7 days.
