Thursday night on in district boys basketball on KWAY Country the Denver Cyclones used a big second half to beat the Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars 81-61. The Cyclones only led by 1 point at halftime. Denver advances to play New Hampton Tuesday for a District Championship.
Thursday night on Y99.3 the defending Class 1A champs were knocked out of contention. South Winn beat Wapsie Valley 61-53 as Jacob Herold scored 29 points in the win.
In other boys District basketball Thursday night: Janesville got by North Butler 59-37, Gladbrook-Reinbeck beat Tripoli 63-27 and Maquoketa Valley edged Dunkerton 49-47.
Class 1A, Section 11 Tournament: The West Hancock wrestling team had a highly successful day on Saturday at the Class 1A, Section 11 tournament in Manson. The Eagles scored 232.5
The Central Springs girls basketball team has its first winning streak of the season after a 54-19 victory over Rockford on Monday night.
The win was the third consecutive victory for the Panthers, who were led by a solid offensive night from junior Alivea Harms.Â
Harms scored a team-high 21 points for Central Springs, with three 3-pointers, while senior Emme Dietrich led the squad with six rebounds.Â
For Rockford, sophomore Loren Fierova had a team-high eight points.Â
With the win, Central Springs improves to 7-11 on the season, while Rockford s 12th straight loss sent the Warriors to a 1-15 record.Â
The Panthers will host Newman Catholic on Tuesday night, and Rockford will host Osage.Â
