Speakers call for favourable tax regime for solar sector - Newspaper

KARACHI: Highlighting several bottlenecks hampering growth of the solar industry, speakers at a webinar organised on Thursday demanded a favourable tax regime and supportive government policies to help the country become self-reliant and independent in the energy sector with least harm to environment. They also urged the government to make registration with the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) simpler to attract more investment in the solar sector. The event was organised by magazine Energy Update. “Pakistan has the potential to generate two million megawatts of solar power but far less clean energy is currently being produced in the country,” said energy expert Irfan Ahmed, adding that resolution of taxation issues would automatically lead to indigenous production of solar equipment.

Daily Times April 29, 2021 Karachi: The solar industry in Pakistan deserves a special and viable tax regime to enable it to unlock its true potential and to help the country in its drive to become self-reliant and independent in the energy sector with the least harm to the environment. This demand was made by the representatives of the solar industry who participated in the webinar organised by the Energy Update. The webinar was organised to discuss the issues of the taxation system and standardization of the products of the solar industry in Pakistan. Participating in the online discussion, Chairman of PM’s Task Force on Housing, Zaigham Rizvi, said that much effort had to be made to make the government and other stakeholders realize the potential of the solar industry to safeguard the environment in Pakistan.
