Of course, this isn’t just any old and rusty Ford Fairmont; it was initially called the “
Fairmont 5” by its builders from Sloppy Mechanics. Now it has a new owner, new drivetrain components, and is ready for another shot at all-time quarter-mile sleeper glory. 34 photos
Originally built more than four decades ago, the 1978 to 1983 Ford Fairmont series usually belongs to the unassuming compact car category. It was created as the successor to the equally forgettable Ford Maverick (the sedan, not the pickup) and premiered (along with the Mercury Zephyr) the Blue Oval’s Fox architecture made famous by the Fox Body Mustang.

It has been over a month now since we ve been keeping an eye out for the 8-turbo, LS-swapped Ford Mustang Kyle Williams being built in Canada. And the big day has come. The owner loaded the car onto the trailer, and went straight to the dyno to see what kind of numbers his Frankenstein-like project could pull off.

With temperatures still in the freezing range in Canada, there were some issues Kyle had to overcome after transporting the car to the dyno. New spark plugs were fitted before the first start, and for the upcoming runs, he also swapped out the winter tires on the car in favor of a set of slick ones. But at least the Mustang was now in the AFR Autoworks shop, and the whole world was curious to see what the outcome would actually be.

A soft-top roadster from the ill-fated Saturn brand, the Sky ran from the 2007 to 2010 model years with four-cylinder powerplants and a dealer-installed turbo upgrade package that develops 290 horsepower. The car we’ll cover today is a little different from its peers, though, because the engine bay is home to an LS2 small-block V8 from the C6 Corvette. 21 photos
A company by the name of Mallett is responsible for this engine swap, which used to retail at $21,995 back in 2007. The automatic upgrade added $3,000 to the tally, translating to a combined $31,535 adjusted for inflation.
Mallett LS2 Sky number 10 is a two-owner car with only 8,157 miles (13,127 kilometers) on the odometer. Coming courtesy of RK Motors Charlotte, the Sunburst Yellow-painted roadster carries an asking price of $39,900, and the sale includes copies of the purchase agreement, order form, and invoice.

About a month ago, we ran a story titled Canadian Dude Slaps 8 Turbos To LS-Swapped Mustang, Does Massive Garage Burnout, which was quite a hit. We were so excited when we stumbled upon that particular video that we just knew we had to share it with you as well. We went on and contacted the owner of the vehicle to get to know him and his creation better.

Kyle lives in Canada, and it seems his insane Mustang is not the first time he s had a Ford vehicle on his hands. In fact, his first-ever car was a 1996 Ford Escort LX with a 1.9-liter engine. This was circa 2006, back when

In this age of the electric revolution, if you re looking for a way to highlight the importance a car s soundtrack has to many drivers, you can t go wrong with mentioning rotary engines. Let s take the Mazda RX-7, for example, since the Fast and Furios franchise has secured a place under the spotlights for the Japanese sports car. 1 photo
Sure, its rotary engine might bring reliability issues, but the brap-brap soundtrack of the hardware has ensured a generous fan base for the toy. Even so, there are certain enthusiasts who introduce the RX-7 to the good old LS swap. After all, the V8 we re talking about sits at the other end of the reliability scale, and, given the number of builds it has powered over the years, such a heart transplant involves reasonable costs.
