A SIGNIFICANT number of people are realising they have made a mistake in getting a pet during the pandemic. When the UK was plunged into a national lockdown back in March 2020, the country ‘went wild’ for puppies due to the ‘perfect opportunity’. Pet Insurance company PetPlan surveyed over 2,000 pet owners in the UK and found that a quarter of them have regrets or concerns about taking ownership of a pet during lockdown. Over the course of the pandemic, a quarter of pet owners welcomed a new pet into their home, most commonly a dog (17%) and cat (12%). Of those who took ownership, almost 47% did so for the first time.
A view from Wrexham’s Member of Parliament
Wrexham.com has invited Wrexham & Clwyd South Members of Parliament and Assembly Members to write a monthly article with updates on their work in their respective Parliaments and closer to home – you can find them all here.
Today, Wrexham’s MP Sarah Atherton writes…
This month, my report into the experiences of women in the Armed Forces and female veterans launched. This report was the culmination of a ground-breaking inquiry that gave women who currently serve – or have served – in our Armed Forces a voice. The inquiry allowed the Defence Select Committee, of which I am a member, to better understand what was going right for our female military personnel and, crucially, what has also been going wrong. The report made 35 recommendations to the Ministry of Defence, which if enacted will make sure the women in our Armed Forces are better protected.

“Violent and confrontational” off-roaders drive Ceiriog Valley farmers to despair
Violent and abusive off-roaders have pushed farmers in the Berwyn mountains to appeal for help from their elected representatives.
Farmers in the Ceiriog Valley have met with Plaid Cymru’s North Wales MS to make their case for an action plan to prevent off-roaders, who “often turn up in gangs with uninsured and untaxed vehicles, from using green lanes into the Berwyn range”.
They met on the Wayfarers track going from Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog over to Llandrillo near Corwen, an old drovers’ track that has become impassable over the years due to neglect and damage caused by the off-roaders.
