Leland man found dead with explosive devices identified by police

The Leland Police Department identified the man who was found dead in his Leland home along with explosives and hazardous materials. At approximately 1:43 a.m. Friday, Leland officers were dispatched to 1207 Regalia Lane in the Waterford neighborhood. Officers and members of Leland Fire and Rescue found potential explosive devices and hazardous materials when they arrived at the home, according to a Leland police news release on Friday. They also found 60-year-old Keith Napolitano, of Leland, dead. An autopsy was completed at East Carolina University, and according to pathologists, preliminary findings combined with evidence recovered at the scene suggested Napolitano died of an accidental overdose, according to a Leland police news release on Tuesday afternoon.

Brunswick County EMS works to keep up with population growth

Brunswick County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state, and its emergency services is working hard to keep up with that growth. In 2017, the StarNews reported that Brunswick County EMS was in need of additional ambulances to keep up with the population growth. Four years later, the population is still growing rapidly right alongside the nationwide shortage of health care professionals. Edward Conrow, the Brunswick County EMS director for two years with more than 30 years of EMS experience said, Nationwide, everyone is going through the same thing. We are always working to keep a full staff, and I don t think that s unique to anybody (working in similar fields).

Leland condemns buildings at Brunswick Point Apartment Homes

The Town of Leland started the condemnation process for all 12 buildings within one apartment complex on Wednesday following structural issues on multiple stairways. According to a press release from the town, it received two separate reports of injuries Wednesday morning at one building of Brunswick Point Apartment Homes, located at 1008 Hunterstone Drive, and evacuated certain units. According to a report from Leland Fire and Rescue, a pizza delivery person fell through the concrete steps at the building on Tuesday night. There is another report of a woman falling through the steps the following day.  During inspections at Brunswick Point, Leland building inspectors identified structurally compromised stairways and issued notices of condemnation of the complex’s 11 other buildings.
