THIRTEEN days before the declaration of war in 1971, Pakistan army launched its biggest attack on the eastern front. The action took place near Garibpur village, some 7 km inside south-western East Pakistan, wherein one battalion of the Indian Army, with support from the artillery, armour and engineers, successfully took on the might of the enemy’s two infantry battalions supported by matching artillery, armour and recce and support combat elements.
In the early hours of November 21, under cover of dense fog, Pakistan’s 107 Infantry Brigade’s 6th and 21st Punjab battalions, supported by 49th and 55th Field Regiments (artillery) and 3 Independent Armoured Squadron (Chaffees), attacked Indian Army’s 14th Punjab Battalion (Nabha Akal) while it was in the process of organising its defences between Garibpur and Jagannathpur villages in Jessore sector.

JAMMU, May 11: The Press Club of Jammu and Journalists from across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday remembered senior photojournalist Ashok Sodhi on his 13th death anniversary.
Sodhi sacrificed his life while performing professional duties during an encounter in 2008 at Kaili Mandi in Samba.
Ashok Sodhi-was a photojournalist with Daily Excelsior.
Excelsior Management and staff also held meeting to pay tributes to Ashok Sodhi, who laid down his life while covering the encounter at Samba this day in 2008.

The story of Dilli Raj Joshi is now a sadly familiar one. After travelling to a wedding in mid-April with his family – a fun, rowdy affair – he began to be troubled by a headache and then breathing difficulties.
Joshi’s worried family took him to a nearby hospital where he was diagnosed with Covid-19 and pneumonia. As his condition deteriorated, the doctors suggested he be transferred to a hospital with intensive care unit (ICU) beds and ventilators, as they had none. But though the family frantically searched for three days, no ICU ward had any space for Joshi. On Friday he died, having never received the medical care he needed to live.
