McDonald’s announced Thursday that over the next several months it will be boosting pay for employees at company-owned restaurants, which account for approximately 650 of its nearly 14,000 U.S. locations.
Amid a labor shortage, McDonald’s has decided to increase wages by 10 percent over the next couple of months for more than 36,000 employees, the fast food giant said in a press release.
“These increases, which have already begun, will be rolled out over the next several months and include shifting the entry level range for crew to at least $11 $17 an hour, and the starting range for shift managers to at least $15 $20 an hour based on restaurant location,” the press release states.
McDonald’s announced on Thursday that it would be raising the wages for its restaurant workers. But the announcement comes with several caveats in the fine print.
The fast food behemoth said that it would be raising hourly wages for employees by 10 percent and that employee pay at all of its company-owned restaurants would reach an average of $15 an hour in several years. The company says that it’s raising its wages in hopes of attracting more employees as restaurants struggle to find workers willing to work for low wages during the pandemic.
Though manynewsoutletsranwith headlines merely touting the wage raise, the reality of the story is less enticing. First, the corporation only owns 5 percent of its restaurant locations, which means that 95 percent of the employees working for the franchise won’t be affected by the raises.

She launched the attack which included a racist outburst at a hospital

A patient attacked NHS workers during an outburst that resulted in carnage at a hospital. Rachelle Mikhnevich was at Clock View Hospital in Walton when she launched an attack after being given a cup of tea she complained was too cold.
The 37-year-old grabbed and twisted one hospital worker s arm before punching, spitting and kicking at six other NHS workers who were trying to help.
Hospital workers were left with bruises, pain, swelling and scratches after Mikhnevich s attack, during which she launched a disgraceful racist outburst at Abdulmalik Abadullah-Atta, calling him a racial slur and biting his hands and fingers.
