Matthew Sias, an insurance agent who ran for the Lafayette City Council in 2019, was arrested on Monday for allegedly committing insurance fraud between December 2019 through September 2020.
According to Louisiana State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen, Troopers began an investigation into the insurance fraud allegations the same month that the Louisiana Department of Insurance issued a Cease & Desist Order to suspend the producer license of Sias, on September 8 of 2020. Sias was arrested on two arrest warrants for the following charges:
3 counts of Producer Fraud
4 counts of Felony Theft
1 count of Automobile Insurance Fraud

In September of 2020 when Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon issued the Cease & Desist Order because of the allegations Sias faced of collecting premiums but not paying his clients bills, Sias spoke with our news partners at KATC about it, saying.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Three people are dead following a head-on collision in Acadia Parish Wednesday.
According to Louisiana State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen, Troop I was notified of a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near mile marker 77 (west of Crowley) in Acadia Parish at approximately 12 a.m., Wednsday, April 7. The crash claimed the life of two drivers and an occupant in one of the vehicles.
New Iberia Man Dies in Crash in Vermilion Parish
35-year-old Brenton Keith Bobb of New Iberia lost his life overnight after he lost control of his car and flipped it into a field.
Louisiana State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says Bobb wasn t found until daylight hours. Bobb was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 13 near Matthew Road in Vermilion Parish, at a high rate of speed, before he crashed the vehicle and landed on its passenger side after it flipped several times..
Bobb was wearing a seat belt. He died at the hospital.
Authorities are testing a standard toxicology sample to determine whether Bobb was impaired or not.
New Iberia Woman Dies in Morning Crash
64-year-old Karlina F. Rosella of New Iberia is dead after her car flipped over and ejected her while she was driving on Federal Highway 90 near Le Triomphe Parkway in St. Martin Parish.
Louisiana State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says the single-vehicle crash happened Thursday morning around 5 a.m. when Rosella s car ran off the roadway into the median, hit a curb, then went airborne. Troopers say she wasn t wearing a seatbelt. A toxicology sample is being analyzed as the crash remains under investigation.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the 7th death out of 6 fatal crashes that Troop I has investigated in 2021.
