West Yorkshire mayoral hopeful visits black and ethnic minority housing association

MP TRACY BRABIN has visited the senior representatives of a black and minority ethnic housing association as part of her campaign to be West Yorkshire’s first directly elected mayor.
The MP for Bately and Spean was welcomed by Manningham Housing Association (MHA) based in Bradford. She was introduced to MHA chief executive Lee Bloomfield and vice chair Abdul A. Ravat.
In a socially-distanced presentation outlining the housing association’s history, the group shared how they had become the first housing association in the UK to be officially accredited for their success in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.

Manningham Housing Association is among the contenders in the Northern Housing Awards. It’s vying for honours in the Landlord of the Year and Resident Support/Advice Programme of the Year categories. Winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on May 13. In the past year, Manningham Housing Association – which owns and manages more than 1,400 homes for over 6,000 residents in Keighley and Bradford – has also received top gradings from the independent regulator. Plus it has been awarded the Customer Service Excellence quality mark and been officially accredited for its work promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. “It is a great honour to be shortlisted for two categories in the Northern Housing Awards and especially this year given the additional challenges we have faced because of the pandemic,” said the association’s chief executive, Lee Bloomfield.

A HOUSING group which manages properties across Keighley and Bradford is expanding a programme of community projects to help people through lockdown. Manningham Housing Association has launched a new ‘Menu of Choice’ – featuring nearly 50 different online activities giving people of all ages the chance to gain skills, get active, be entertained and meet new friends. The programme includes healthy-eating tips, fitness classes such as yoga and chair-based exercise, music therapy, virtual coffee mornings, financial advice workshops and interactive sessions on improving mental wellbeing. The initiative follows on from Building Bridges Bradford – a series of mental health, social cohesion, employment and digital inclusion schemes launched by the association last year, with funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
