Meredith officials looking at options for pedestrian safety May 12, 2021MEREDITH – Lighted pedestrian signs and expanded speed patrols around problem areas are a few of the ways the town is addressing speeding and traffic safety issues on Main Street. Safety has been a big concern on Main Street, especially in front of the post office and other areas. During the selectmen s May 3 meeting, town manager Phil Warren talked about almost getting hit while crossing the street in front of the post office. It amazes me how many people regardless of age, sex, demographics, vehicle, whatever ignore certain 6-foot people that are pretty wide in a crosswalk, Warren said.

Island Connections director plans to step down May 2, 2021 on News BAR HARBOR Doreen Willett, the executive director of Island Connections, will leave the nonprofit at the end of this year. She and her husband will be relocating to Florida, a move she calls “bittersweet,” because she will be leaving an organization that she loves.  “I’m very proud of how I have improved the organization, enhancing the relationships and collaborations built over the years for program purposes, building community awareness, moving our office space to the Municipal Building in Bar Harbor, creating community fundraising events and implementing positive change all for the benefit of strengthening the organization,” she said.

Some contested races on Meredith ballot March 03, 2021REGION – A number of local elections have some contested races while a number of incumbents are running uncontested for reelection. Election day in Meredith and Center harbor is on Tuesday, March 9 while Moultonborough and Sandwich have rescheduled their elections for a later date going with a governor s emergency order. Moultonborough voters will take to the polls on May 11 and Sandwich will vote on April 13. In Meredith, three people are seeking two open seats on the board of selectmen: Michael Laurent, Lynn Leighton, and incumbent Jeanie Forrester. The rest are uncontested. Four people are running for four open seats for library trustees: Vivien Mitchell is running along with incumbents Ann Butler, Paul Eldridge, and Jonathan James.
