Shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, Las Cruces police were dispatched to the report of a shooting victim at a home on the 4900 block of Calle Bella Court. Officers arrived to find a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Onate High School, about one mile from where the incident occurred, was placed on temporary lockdown out of an abundance of caution. The lockdown was lifted before 12:30 p.m.
Investigators have interviewed several individuals and have obtained potential evidence in this case. The investigation is ongoing.

LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces Catholic School reports a person broke into the school s portables over the weekend, stealing large, expensive items as well as small, personal items from desks, totaling $5,000 worth of property.
A news release from the school states the burglary of the first portable happened about midnight Saturday at the school, 1331 Miranda St. Surveillance video shows the suspect, allegedly armed with a gun, fleeing on a bicycle with several items. The suspect returns about 4 a.m. Sunday on foot carrying a dolly and burglarized another portable.
The suspect stole several Chromebooks, laptops, projectors, air purifiers, webcams, sanitizers, disinfectant wipes, crayons and STEM project supplies, according to the school. The air purifiers are being used to keep air circulating amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A man suspected of discharging a handgun at a former friend in March has been arrested and charged with a trio of felonies.
Andrew Jerome Maldonado, 26, of the 5400 block of Peachtree Hills Road, is charged with three fourth-degree felonies including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Las Cruces police investigators learned the incident occurred on March 11 at 900 E. Madrid Ave. Police learned Maldonado chased after a former friend and discharged a .40 caliber handgun toward him at close range. Miraculously, the victim was not struck by the gunfire and escaped injury.
