PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - One local volunteer organization has a plan to help collect books for kids in Northwest Florida this summer. The GFWC Emerald Coast Junior Woman’s Club in Panama City has kicked off its summer drive. The organization will collect both new and used books for the Little Free Libraries of “District 2.” The drive is part of the “Book Heroes” project founded by Shannon Bailey, the Florida past director of Junior Clubs for 2018 through 2020.

It has been an honor to serve the city for the last nine years. I ve met a lot of good friends through this process, Nichols said. The most rewarding thing has to be to get to know the city staff and the people in the departments. It s been an honor to serve with them in this roll.

PANAMA CITY A study to expand parking in St. Andrews is one local commissioners hope to help bolster the economy of the quaint waterfront fishing village. The details of the study, which included input from more than 250 respondents, was presented Thursday by Hall Planning and Engineering, Inc. at the Oakland Terrace Clubhouse. I m just happy that we ve had the study. . We need to tie that back in to the charrette process and implement it, Commissioner Mike Nichols said. I think we re at the moment right now that we ve got some good planning and some good thought process, and now we have the money and now we can implement some of those plans.

Panama City Florida native hosts Cocalero beach bartender contest

The Cocalero Mixology Bartender Contest is set for 7-8:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) at SpringHill Suites, 12513 Front Beach Road, in Panama City Beach, followed by an awards ceremony and after-party.  Competing bartenders include Eric Dunn at Newby’s Brew & Booze House, Sam Cumbest at C-Level Bar & Grill, Logan Franks at Craft 850 (formerly Fishale), Ryan McKinney at Salty Hobo, Jake Flowers at Los Antojitos and Asia Donopria at Slapsticks Cue & Brew. Competitors will be judged on taste, presentation and creativity. The first-place prize is $150, second-place prize is $100 and third is $50 plus a bottle of Cocalero. The Cocalero liqueur pays homage to cocaleros, traditional cocoa leaf farmers.
