Senior Centers Tapped For Vaccine Distribution Jan. 30-31
LARSO News:
The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) announced this morning that the senior centers in Los Alamos and White Rock have been notified that they will serve as distribution hubs for the Jan. 30-31 COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic. The New Mexico Aging & Long-Term Services Department has determined that ALL APPOINTMENTS, will be assigned through the Department of Health Registration Site at www.vaccinenm.org, or by calling 1-855-600-3453.
NO appointments will be made through Betty Ehart Senior Center or White Rock Senior Center.
“We’re so happy to serve in this role,” LARSO Executive Director Bernadette Lauritzen said. “The Department of Health can insure the registration, documentation and reminders for additional shots better than a small organization. We are deeply grateful for the collaboration with Los Alamos County staff as community partners.”
LARSO Shares Latest Update On Vaccine For Local Seniors
LARSO News:
The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) has received additional information from the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department regarding the COVID-19 vaccine for local seniors.
“We beg people to please realize that this is a moving target,” LARSO Executive Director Bernadette Lauritzen said. “Please be kind to my employees because they are operating on little information and simply don’t have an answer to many questions yet.”
It appears that the time frame for receiving the vaccine doses is early February and those eligible are in the group 1b category. The CDC defines that category as seniors 75 and above. These initial doses will not be available for staff or the vaccinating pharmacy to make allowances for a staff or someone younger with additional health issues.
Local Senior Centers To Serve As COVID-19 Vaccine Hubs
LARSO News:
The Los Alamos and White Rock senior centers found out recently that much like the flu vaccine distribution, will be a hub for the COVID-19 vaccine for seniors.
“I am so elated,” said Executive Director Bernadette Lauritzen of the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization, (LARSO), which operates the senior centers. “I am hopeful that those 60 and over that aren’t members would consider joining the centers, which is free, that way they would immediately be notified when dates are scheduled to register to receive the vaccine. It really demonstrates our worth to the state and county as senior centers.”

“My favorite spots were Hattusa, the capital of the 3,600-year-old Hittite empire, and Antalya a city old town that has a very strong cultural flavor,” Cooper said. “The photos of the greater flamingos were especially satisfying because, they were taken at Sultan Sazligi, a marsh that I requested to visit and unknown to our tour guide.”
