Terri Goss Kinzy was named Friday as Illinois State University s 20th president. Kinzy, currently vice president for research and innovation at Western Michigan University, will succeed a retiring Larry Dietz this summer.
Kinzy s name was revealed during Friday morning s Board of Trustees meeting. She takes over July 1.
Kinzy will become ISU s first female president. She emerged from a field of over 50 qualified candidates, university officials said. There were four finalists, though their names were not disclosed publicly during the search. It s important for everyone to see that potential exists to go into leadership and to bring your voice and have it heard, Kinzy said. It s very exciting.

Illinois State University has a new president… and for the first time, a woman will fill that job.
Terri Goss Kinzy becomes the 20
th president of the university in Normal. She succeeds Larry Dietz, who will retire in June.
Kinzy, who is currently a vice president at Western Michigan University, was given a four-year contract, under which she will be paid $375,000 a year and will receive the use of a personal car.
ISU set to appoint new president Friday
The appointment will come during Board of Trustees special meeting Friday morning.
According to a BoT resolution, the new president will be paid an annual salary of $375,000 starting July 1, 2021.
Current ISU President Larry Dietz announced his retirement in November 2020. Dietz was appointed to the role in March 2014, but has been in higher education for more than 50 years.

Illinois State University s board of trustees heard from frustrated graduate student workers on Friday before it took the next step toward creating a new engineering college.
During the their quarterly meeting, trustees unanimously adopted a plan to seek approval for the new college from the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE).
Graduate student workers told the board the university should prioritize a labor contract with them before pursuing any big spending projects.
Teachers assistant Natalie Jipson said the university should take care of its underpaid and undervalued graduate workers.

Illinois State University’s student government has endorsed the idea of requiring students to be vaccinated for COVID-19 if they want to attend classes next fall.
With only one “no” vote, the Student Government Association recently endorsed the resolution in support of mandatory vaccination for those physically attending classes in the fall, said Grant Chassy, who wrote and sponsored the measure.
“I’m not just lecturing you about my vote,” Chassy said at Wednesday night’s Academic Senate meeting, where he gave an overview of the resolution. “This is the overwhelming view of the students, and the body we’re all tasked to serve.”
