The Brian Lara Promenade was cordoned off on Saturday as a result of people flouting the COVID-19 regulations. This was revealed by Port-of-Spain Mayor Joel Martinez who also said that the coconut vendors around the Queen s Park Savannah are likely to be closed down also.
Speaking to the Sunday Guardian, Martinez said Our Municipal Police made an observation on Thursday on the Promenade that there were a lot of people clustering and congregating there, they were breaking all the protocol rules.

That was the advice from Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh yesterday, after he said he was appalled at the behaviour of some citizens even as health officials and the Government have implemented more restrictions and urged more vigilance to stave off the latest wave of COVID-19.
Speaking during a media briefing to update citizens on the latest restrictions implemented and the situation regarding the treatment of COVID patients at facilities across the country, Deyalsingh said he had driven through downtown Port-of-Spain hours earlier and was brought to tears when he saw people drinking and congregating in flagrant violation of the public health ordinances.
Four arrested for illegal street vending

Four persons were arrested and several market items seized after Port-of-Spain City Police cracked down on illegal street vending.
All four were charged with offering for sale marketable commodities, wilful obstruction and unlawful pitch of a stall, offences which are contrary to the Municipal Corporations Act.
According to police reports, the make-shift stalls containing the assorted marketable commodities were seized, documented and examined by officers of the public health department. The individuals are expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate next week. The exercise was conducted along Charlotte, Henry, Frederick and Queen Janelle Commissiong Streets, Broadway and the Brian Lara Promenade, Independence Square.
