Supt Delaney has served in the Longford District for almost five years as superintendent following a lengthy and successful career with An Garda Síochána. He was promoted to the role after a few years as Inspector at Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station. State Solicitor Mark Connellan and  local solicitor John Quinn led the tributes .On behalf of An Garda Síochána and in particular those members who have worked under Supt Delaney, Inspector Frank Finn commended the professionalism with which Supt Delaney conducted himself.

Claire Hishon (31), 5 O’Connor Park, Longford had told a sitting of Longford District Court on April 27 last that she would rather serve a spell behind bars than hand over any money to Gemma Kirwan who she assaulted along the county town’s Main Street last year. The incident, which took place on November 18 2020, left Ms Kirwan with an injury to her thumb and pain to her lower back.

Garda Keith O Brien told last week s sitting of Longford District Court of how he had also been forced to record David O Leary (32) 2 St Matthew s Park, Ballymahon, Co Longford making a series of threats to him and his family. He said the tone and choice of words used by the accused went “far beyond” what he had previously experienced as a rank and file garda officer.

€270,000 allocated for upgrade works on Longford rural roads and laneways Reporter: );   ); €270,000 has been allocated for repairs and improvement works on non-public roads in rural communities in Longford, as part of the Government’s ‘Our Rural Future’ project.  Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, on Friday announced an allocation of €10.5 million for repairs and improvement works on non-public roads in rural communities. The funding, announced under the Local Improvement Scheme, will improve access to rural homes and farms, as well as outdoor amenities such as lakes, rivers, mountains and beaches. The €10.5 million allocation represents a 5% increase compared to 2020, with every county receiving an increase.
