Longford revocation of firearm case adjourned for medical report Reporter:   ); A man appealing a decision to have his firearms certificate revoked is due to reappear in September after it was revealed that a complicated hearing into his case and a medical report would be required. Ivan Miller, Cartronboy, Ballymahon, appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court. The court heard that, on March 22, 2020, Mr Miller allegedly threatened to use the gun to shoot a woman with whom he said he had an intimate relationship. Solicitor for the defence, Frank Gearty, explained that his client is “of previously good character”.

Tributes paid to Superintendent Jim Delaney ahead of retirement Delaney was a former Inspector in Leitrim Reporter: jessica.thompson@longfordleader.ie );   ); Heartfelt tributes and best wishes resonated throughout Longford District Court this week as solicitors, gardaí and court officials wished well-respected Superintendent Jim Delaney well with his upcoming retirement. Supt Delaney has served in the Longford District for almost five years as superintendent following a lengthy and successful career with An Garda Síochána. He was promoted to the role after a few years as Inspector at Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station. State Solicitor Mark Connellan and  local solicitor John Quinn led the tributes .On behalf of An Garda Síochána and in particular those members who have worked under Supt Delaney, Inspector Frank Finn commended the professionalism with which Supt Delaney conducted himself.

New Longford garda offensive leads to arrests of car theft suspects Operation Phoenix already paying dividends, says superintendent Reporter: );   ); Two major garda breakthroughs into car thefts and stolen property taken from parked vehicles has been attributed to a recently introduced offensive aimed at increasing police visibility along the streets of Longford town. Operation Phoenix began at the behest of senior garda management last September in response to growing calls from local businesses and public representatives for greater garda visibility in order to counteract shoplifting, petty thefts and underpin public confidence. Those efforts, the Leader can reveal, has seen more than 1,000 “proactive policing engagements” being recorded, ranging from patrols of Longford Train Station, retail premises and inspections of pubs as well as other liquor licensing establishments.
