India logs 42,766 new COVID cases; 1,206 deaths in past 24 hours

New Delhi: People shop at Lajpat Nagar Central Market after it reopened on Wednesday India recorded 42,766 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 1,206 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday, the country saw a total of 45,254 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 2,99,33,538. The total cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 3,07,95,716 with 4,55,033 active cases, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 4,07,145. A total of 36,13,23,548 people have so far been vaccinated across the country.

Share Via Email   |  A+A A- By Express News Service NEW DELHI: Reacting to the closure of Lajpat Nagar market and Rui Mandi in Sadar Bazar for violation of Covid norms, representatives of various trader bodies claimed that crowding is mainly due to the presence of street vendors and it is up to the administration to prevent it.Stating that closure of markets is not a solution, they suggested that authorities come up with uniform SOPs for all market associations after holding discussions with traders.

Delhi s Lajpat Nagar Central Market closed for violating Covid-19 protocols

Deserted Central Market in Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi (PTI photo) The popular Central Market in Delhi Lajpat Nagar has been closed down by authorities for violating Covid-19 protocols. The market will remain closed until further orders. In an order issued on July 4, the Lajpat Nagar Market Traders Association has been asked to show cause why action should not be taken against them for violating Covid-19 norms. The association has also been directed to ensure that all unlock SOPs in the market are enforced within a day and shopkeepers strictly follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. The order states that under the supervision of the SDM of the area, the enforcement team inspected the Lajpat Nagar Central Market and found a gross violation of Covid-19 rules, following which the call to shut down the market was taken.
