Local drug trafficker working for Laliya arrested

Share: COLOMBO (News 1st): A 22-year-old girl was arrested by Hanwella Police on Tuesday (02) for the possession of narcotics, Sri Lanka Police said on Wednesday (Feb. 03). The 22-year-old female suspect was functioning as the local drug trafficker serving under famous drug dealer who goes by the alias, “Laliya” who operates from overseas, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said on Wednesday (Feb. 03). During the arrest, 55 grams of Heroin, 35 grams of synthetic narcotic known as ICE, and 5 grams of Cannabis were recovered from the suspect’s possession, DIG Ajith Rohana noted. Further, the police recovered a three-wheeler and a motorcycle used to distribute drugs in the Hanwella area.

MISSING COVID-19 PATIENT LOCATED

Share: COLOMBO (News 1st): The 43-year-old COVID-19 patient who left the Punani COVID-19 Treatment Facility in Valaichchenai on Tuesday evening (Jan. 19), was located in Eheliayagoda on Wednesday morning, (Jan. 20), Sri Lanka Police said. “The Eheliyagoda Police had arrested the patient at around 8:30 this morning in Palpitiya of the Eheliyagoda Police jurisdiction, and he will be transferred to a Treatment Facility,” Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said on Wednesday (Jan. 20). Sri Lanka Police are currently investigating the route taken by the patient to travel from Valaichchenai to Eheliyagoda. “Once the treatment process concludes, legal action will be taken against the patient under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance,” the Deputy Police Chief emphasized.

Sri Lanka Police said there is a rise in synthetic drugs being smuggled into the country. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said at a meeting between law enforcement stakeholders on Monday (18) it was discussed to obtain support from Sri Lankan diplomatic missions to extradite suspects wanted for crimes in the country. The meeting was held between Minister of Public Security Retired Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekera, Justice Minister Ali Sabry PC, Justice Secretary, Public Security Secretary, and the Inspector General of Police along with DIG in-charge of Legal, Discipline, and Conduct.
