COLOMBO (News 1st): A 22-year-old girl was arrested by Hanwella Police on Tuesday (02) for the possession of narcotics, Sri Lanka Police said on Wednesday (Feb. 03).
The 22-year-old female suspect was functioning as the local drug trafficker serving under famous drug dealer who goes by the alias, “Laliya” who operates from overseas, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said on Wednesday (Feb. 03).
During the arrest, 55 grams of Heroin, 35 grams of synthetic narcotic known as ICE, and 5 grams of Cannabis were recovered from the suspect’s possession, DIG Ajith Rohana noted.
Further, the police recovered a three-wheeler and a motorcycle used to distribute drugs in the Hanwella area.

Colombo (News 1st); Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral (Retired) Dr. Sarath Weerasekera has instructed Sri Lanka Police to take stern action against a member of the Batapola Pradeshiya Sabha who is wanted for conspiracy to murder.
Further, the Minister instructed Sri Lanka Police to take necessary legal action against anyone who harbored the fugitive Batapola Pradeshiya Sabha member, identified as Shakthi Madusanka.
Sri Lanka Police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest a member of the Batapola Pradeshiya Sabha for conspiracy to murder.

COLOMBO (News 1st): The 43-year-old COVID-19 patient who left the Punani COVID-19 Treatment Facility in Valaichchenai on Tuesday evening (Jan. 19), was located in Eheliayagoda on Wednesday morning, (Jan. 20), Sri Lanka Police said.
“The Eheliyagoda Police had arrested the patient at around 8:30 this morning in Palpitiya of the Eheliyagoda Police jurisdiction, and he will be transferred to a Treatment Facility,” Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said on Wednesday (Jan. 20).
Sri Lanka Police are currently investigating the route taken by the patient to travel from Valaichchenai to Eheliyagoda.
“Once the treatment process concludes, legal action will be taken against the patient under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance,” the Deputy Police Chief emphasized.

Colombo (News 1st); The inaugural session of the Mihinthale Pradeshiya Sabha for 2021 opened with a physical altercation on Tuesday (19).
When the session opened a councilor from the opposition was seen taking a seat in the chair designated for the Opposition Leader and thereafter, the Opposition Leader of the local government body arrived.
At that moment, an altercation took place within the local government body.
Sri Lanka Police later arrested the councilor who attacked the Mihinthale Pradeshiya Sabha Opposition Leader, adding the councilor was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police is to launch special anti-narcotic operations to trace synthetic drugs smuggled into the country as well as to arrest suspects involved in trafficking the drugs.
Sri Lanka Police said there is a rise in synthetic drugs being smuggled into the country.
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said at a meeting between law enforcement stakeholders on Monday (18) it was discussed to obtain support from Sri Lankan diplomatic missions to extradite suspects wanted for crimes in the country.
The meeting was held between Minister of Public Security Retired Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekera, Justice Minister Ali Sabry PC, Justice Secretary, Public Security Secretary, and the Inspector General of Police along with DIG in-charge of Legal, Discipline, and Conduct.
