Hopkinton School District will be hosting a vaccine clinic next week, for students and community members ages 12 and older to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The vaccinations will take place May 21 from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at Maple Street School, where employees from Rite Aid pharmacy will be administering the Pfizer vaccine, the only vaccine currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration for children ages 12-18. There will be a follow-up clinic June 11 for students to receive the second dose.

Promoted officer to leave school

The Concord School District is moving ahead with creating a task force to re-examine the district’s discipline process and the role of the school resource officer, amid news that the current officer will be leaving the position.
Officer Brendan Ryder has been promoted to the rank of detective within the Concord Police Department, according to Chief Bradley Osgood, and will be leaving his current position as school resource officer at Concord High School at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
Interim superintendent Kathleen Murphy announced the impending departure at a Concord School Board meeting Monday, saying that principal Michael Reardon has formed a committee of students, staff and parents to begin the process of screening new candidates for the position.

The criminal trial for former Concord High School teacher Howie Leung who is accused of sexually assaulting a Concord student here and at a boarding school in Massachusetts has been postponed again, this time until next winter.
The jury trial, which was set to begin Tuesday at Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn, Mass., has been rescheduled for Jan. 25, 2022, with a pre-trial conference on Jan. 14.
The schedule of jury trials has been backed up in Massachusetts since last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jury trials were halted in the state in March 2020 when the pandemic hit, and did not resume again until Jan. 2021, meaning many trials have been delayed far into the future.
