Students around New Hampshire are seeing firsthand the results of budget shortfalls as schools scramble to deliver education during a year that requires new tools and approaches to learning.
Now, students are saying school funding needs higher priority in Gov. Chris Sununu’s 2022-2023 budget, and are asking for specific actions that will help improve instruction.
Students from several area high schools and universities shared fears about the success of their own schools during an online forum Wednesday hosted by the New Hampshire Young Democrats organization, and said the state needs to invest more in education amid the pandemic.
New Hampshire lawmakers are debating a bill that would prevent educators from teaching about systemic racism and sexism in public schools and state-funded programs. HB 544, titled an act “relative to the propagation of divisive topics,” seeks to limit.

St. Paul’s School is having discussions about racial justice this week, after a Black Lives Matter sign was defaced, elevating concern among students about racism on campus.
Rector Kathy Giles held a virtual town hall webinar Monday to discuss the incident, in which someone wrote the word “all” in red pen on a Black Lives Matter sign that was hanging in a classroom in the school’s Lindsay Center.
