Nearly half of Pennsylvania’s state senators are urging Gov. Tom Wolf to lift his COVID-19 mitigation orders on businesses before Memorial Day.
In a letter to the governor, they asked for the restrictions to be lifted on Friday, May 28 - the Friday before Memorial Day. Currently, Wolf plans to remove the restrictions on Memorial Day, May 31.
Lawmakers argue removing the restrictions three days earlier would help the hospitality and tourism industries, which have been hurt badly by the pandemic.

The speaker of the Pennsylvania House has tested positive for the coronavirus.

started quarantining three days ago, after learning he was exposed to someone with the coronavirus. His office did not provide further details of the interaction.
In a statement, Cutler said he was not at the Capitol when he believes he contracted the virus, noting his exposure should have “no impact” on anyone working there. Throughout the pandemic, the House Republican caucus has maintained a policy of disclosure and quarantining whenever a member believes they’ve been exposed.

One by one, Pennsylvania’s neighbors are moving to legalize recreational cannabis for adults. There’s majority support for doing the same thing here: A March poll from Franklin & Marshall College showed 59% support among registered voters for legalization.
And after years of saying he wouldn’t endorse such a move, Gov. Tom Wolf changed his position in 2019 and has committed to signing a bill if it reaches his desk.
But in order for that to happen, the idea would need to gain backing among the Republican lawmakers who control both the state House and Senate.
