A Mackay man who says he carried around a butcherâs knife for self-defence against vigilantes was told his actions could have been âcatastrophicâ.
Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday heard police arrested Kasey Phillips Charles George at the Rural View Caltex service station in relation to another matter about 1pm on April 21.
Prosecutor Robert Beamish said when police then searched George, they found a butcherâs knife with a 27cm blade concealed in the front waistband of his shorts.
â(George) stated the knife was for use for protection or self defence against vigilantes that may be seeking him in relation to posts about him on social media,â Mr Beamish said.

Diane Louise Mary Conroy faced Mackay Magistrates Court via videolink from jail earlier this month on 13 charges while two of her daughters watched from the gallery. Legal Aid Queensland defence solicitor Rosemary Varley said her 52-year-old client dropped out of high school in Year 9 and was the youngest of 13 siblings. (Conroy) was in receipt of Centrelink New Start allowance, Ms Varley said. Her primary job prior to her remand was the care of her daughter ⦠who is 16 years of age.
