As a city, Liverpool has had quite the year.
From becoming the epicentre of the devastating second wave of Covid-19, to holding the first city-wide mass testing operation for the virus, it has been a turbulent time.
Politically there have been plenty of headlines too, with an arrested mayor and council officers and an inspection report that has led to government commissioners being sent to oversee dysfunctional departments of the city council.
This week promises to be another that will live long in the memory as Liverpool goes to the polls for the most unpredictable city elections in more than a decade.
I always hesitate to compliment Jared Polis for fear that any kind word from me backfires. It could anger his progressive supporters who have near complete sway over him.
When Jared was running for Congress the first time, I was joking around with him saying that if he would just donate a million dollars to my organization, Independence Institute, I wouldn’t endorse him. Polis instantly shot back, “How much for you to endorse my opponent?” He understands the danger of praise.
But praise is deserved.
Polis FINALLY stood up to the loony wing of his party (which, by the way, has complete control of the state legislature). He sent a strong veto message against the economy-wrecking, Green New Deal-wannabe Senate Bill 200, sponsored by socialists Faith Winter, Dominick Moreno and Dominique Jackson.

On Thursday, the people of Liverpool will go to the polls to elect a new mayor to lead the city.
Whoever is announced as the winner of the vote at Friday s count will be only the second city mayor Liverpool has ever had.
The post was created in 2012 and has been held until now by Labour s Joe Anderson. He was due to be the party s candidate for this year s covid-delayed elections but has been replaced following a remarkable turn of events t hat saw him arrested as part of a corruption probe and government commissioners ordered to oversee parts of the troubled city council.
