May 6, 2021 ROCHESTER Seniors can get down, grab lunch and go to a book club in the coming months at the Rochester Senior Center The center is hosting a Hip Hop Chair Exercise class on Wednesday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. This one-time event is sponsored by the Rochester Cultural Council. A special Luncheon will be held at the Rochester Senior Center on Monday, May 24 at noon. Lunch will be homemade chicken pot pie. A $5 donation is requested and advanced reservation is required. Joseph H. Plumb Corner Library Director, Gail Roberts, will be relaunching book club at the Rochester Senior Center on Tuesday, June 8 from 1 to 2 p.m.  This will be an organizational meeting.  Bring your library card to pick up a copy of July’s book, “Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie,” by Alan Bradley.

May 4, 2021 ROCHESTER Now that the Council on Aging has reopened, the senior center is resuming its typical event programming. The Monthly Bereavement Group with Reverend Larry from Continuum Hospice will be held on Tuesday, May 11 at 11 a.m. Reservations are not required. On Wednesday, May 12, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. residents can pick up food from the Greater Boston Food Bank. Food pick-up must be made in person, unless prior arrangements have been made. Call the Rochester Senior Center to apply for this service. The Rochester COA Board Meeting will be held at Town Hall on Wednesday, May 12 at 9 a.m. This meeting can also be accessed via webinar.

Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race going ahead with precautions

May 4, 2021 ROCHESTER  The Rochester Fire Department will sponsor the Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race again this year  but with new covid restrictions in place to keep people safe and healthy. The traditional boat race on the Mattapoisett River will take place on Memorial Day, May 31, starting at 8:30 a.m.  It starts at Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir on Snipatuit Road in Rochester and finishes at the Mattapoisett Herring Weir at River Road and Route 6. Race organizers ask both spectators and contestants to exercise self-discipline during the race. Face masks must be worn and social distancing must be observed if still required by Massachusetts state guidelines at the end of the month.
