ROCHESTER, Minn. - The Rochester Public School Board has finalized the district s contract agreement with incoming Interim Superintendent Dr. Kent Pekel.
Dr. Pekel will earn a gross annual salary of $223,000 during his one-year tenure leading Rochester Public Schools. RPS Board Chair Jean Marvin says that amount is less than the current superintendent s pay, and is commensurate with Pekel s experience. This is less than the current superintendent is earning, but it is well within the parameters of what a superintendent of a district this size, and with the expertise that Dr. Pekel has, would expect to earn, Marvin said.

(ABC 6 News) - Rochester school board members have unanimously voted to extend an offer to Dr. Kent Pekel as the interim superintendent, contingent on contract negotiations and a background check.
Board chair Jean Marvin said Pekel has accepted the offer to be the next superintendent for Rochester Public Schools
Pekel, president and CEO of the nonprofit organization Search Institute based in Minneapolis, told the board his work has a lot to do with building relationships. At one point, Pekel brought up the importance of never forgetting the lessons learned from the pandemic and what needs to happen when school begins this fall.
Kids (and curious adults, too ) will have a chance to get an up-close look at dump trucks, snowplows, law enforcement vehicles, and more at MnDOT s annual Rochester Transportation Fair this Saturday.
According to a press release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the event will be held at two locations including at Hoover Early Learning School and at Mighty Oaks Early Learning School from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 15th.
MnDOT is hosting the free event sponsored by Community Education, Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), Parents Are Important in Rochester (PAIIR), School Readiness program, and Rochester Public Works.
