Mexico turned the ball over, Macon scored. Mexico turned the ball over, Macon scored. It’s a pattern that repeated on Saturday in the championship game of the Macon Tournament. Not at their best except for one quarter, the Bulldogs fell 63-40 to finish second in the weeklong event.
It wasn’t Mexico’s night, and to Blevins’ observation, Macon was almost unerring in their offensive touch.

Brookfield learned something from their first encounter with Mexico back in December. They opened Monday’s encounter in the Macon Tournament in a zone, and it worked – for a few minutes.
Once Mexico’s Bulldogs broke through they were near unstoppable, cruising to a 68-26 win to go 10-2 on the year.
“At the beginning of the year teams didn’t know who we were,” explained Taylor DeMint. “When they play man, teams can’t stop us. The zone slows us down.”
The Bulldogs began to edge away in the first. And when Ruby Haefling drained a three in the second, the faucet opened.
Mexico girls knock off Eugene Published by admin on Wed, 01/13/2021 - 8:05pm

There were a few moments on Friday night when it looked as if Mexico’s winning ways might suffer a blow.
Throughout the second half in Eugene, the host Eagles threatened to close within 10 points. But each time one of head coach Ed Costley’s squad would repair the damage.
“We held on,” he said of the Bulldogs 56-43 road win, giving Mexico a 9-2 record heading into next week’s Macon Tournament.
Eugene’s Kaydi Alderman made it an 8-point game, 31-23, two minutes into the third quarter. With Mexico in foul trouble, guard Riley Blevins was forced to post up against the big Eagles forwards.
“How many points did number 23 score?”
That question haunted Kirksville players, coaches and the visiting fan who asked it following Mexico’s 55-43 win over the Tigers last Wednesday evening at The Sports Complex.
Mya Miller – number 23 for the Bulldogs – dominated the game on both ends of the floor. She battered the visitors from the start, flying across the lane for an opening lay up, taking an overhead pass from Alexis Willer to the hoop shortly afterward, outscoring Kirksville 8-4 in the first quarter.
After Riley Thurman rolled one in to open the second period, Miller fired a kick out pass to Taylor DeMint, who sank a shot from beyond the arc. Miller followed up with a three of her own to give the Bulldogs a 16-4 cushion.
