They shut down the Spartans’ prolific guard Jaisten Payne, controlled the paint and poured in 24 points in the eight minute span.

Mexico lost 63-40 to Macon. [Eric Mattson] By:  Editor Mexico turned the ball over, Macon scored. Mexico turned the ball over, Macon scored. It’s a pattern that repeated on Saturday in the championship game of the Macon Tournament. Not at their best except for one quarter, the Bulldogs fell 63-40 to finish second in the weeklong event.     It wasn’t Mexico’s night, and to Blevins’ observation, Macon was almost unerring in their offensive touch.

Mexico boys swarm Brookfield in opening round of Macon tourney

Mexico boys swarm Brookfield in opening round of Macon tourney Published by admin on Fri, 01/22/2021 - 1:39pm By:  Editor There were three takeaways from Monday night, when the Bulldogs punished Brookfield 90-20 in the first round of the Macon Tournament to remain unbeaten this season. “It’s a good way to start out a tournament like this,” said head coach Darren Pappas. Indeed – it was a win, he was able to give the Mexico bench more experience and the team executed well on both sides of the court. “Let’s not be satisfied, let’s keep our heads down,” was forward Drew Blevins’ message after the blowout victory.

Mexico girls batter Broofield | The Mexico Ledger

Mexico girls batter Broofield By:  Editor Brookfield learned something from their first encounter with Mexico back in December. They opened Monday’s encounter in the Macon Tournament in a zone, and it worked – for a few minutes. Once Mexico’s Bulldogs broke through they were near unstoppable, cruising to a 68-26 win to go 10-2 on the year. “At the beginning of the year teams didn’t know who we were,” explained Taylor DeMint. “When they play man, teams can’t stop us. The zone slows us down.” The Bulldogs began to edge away in the first. And when Ruby Haefling drained a three in the second, the faucet opened.
