Rise of Delta variant of COVID-19 increases need for vaccinations Share
Amid a recent rise in the Delta variant of COVID-19, the Washoe County Health District (WCHD) and state health officials are urging those who are unvaccinated to reconsider the decision.
The COVID-19 vaccine is proven to reduce the chances of contracting COVID-19 and its variants. In the case of infection, it greatly reduced the risk of hospitalization or death. The Delta variant is the most dominant variant in Washoe County and across the country.
Health officials said most people hospitalized with the Delta variant are unvaccinated.
WCHD and its community partners will be holding several vaccination events this week.

The Washoe County Health District invited 500 randomly selected individuals from the 65-69 age group for COVID-19 vaccinations, local health officials said in a press briefing Thursday.
Health officials continue to see individuals show up to the Reno-Sparks Livestock events center, where the Point of Dispensing (PODs) are located, without making an appointment.
They urge people to get on the waitlist for an appointment by calling them at 775-328-2427 or by visiting their website at www.Covid19WashoeVaccine.com. Individuals on the waitlist are selected at random by the health district, which then emails or calls to set the actual appointment.
