Southwestern Connecticut’s office leasing was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, but the market still showed signs of life.
The mixed outlook is detailed in a new report from commercial real estate firm Newmark. While leasing volume plunged last year, Newmark officials argue that major deals brokered in the past few months showed that amid the rise of remote working many corporate tenants still see offices as key to their long-term plans.

DANBURY, CT Nuvance Health announced Monday it will be leasing 220,000 square feet of office space in the former Union Carbide building to consolidate offices in Connecticut and bring 500 jobs from locations in New York.
The deal is the largest office lease in the state this year, according to a news release from Summit Development of Southport, who acquired the property two years ago.

The lease with Nuvance, formerly Western Connecticut Medical, is for 12 years and includes an option to expand up to 300,000 square feet. Christmas storm leaves path of destruction, knocks out power to parts of Connecticut

Parts of Western Connecticut were pummeled by a strong wind and rainstorm overnight that lasted into Christmas Day.
Heavy rain and strong winds pounded the region and knocked out power, sent trees tumbling down, and damaged property across the state.
The Norwalk AutoZone Autoparts Store saw those strong gusts rip off some of the building s siding, but the city escaped any road closures.
New Canaan saw road closures on Weeburn Drive where a downed tree blocked the road snagging power lines and cutting off power to the neighborhood.
