Izaak Walton buckthorn battle continues with quest for new recruits

John Ryder said cutting down buckthorn was a perfect opportunity to log volunteer hours as a Minnesota Master Naturalist.
“It’s a spring day, the sun’s out, and there’s not much to do,” he said as he stood on the frozen pond in the Rochester Izaak Walton League Wetlands.
Christmas storm leaves path of destruction, knocks out power to parts of Connecticut

Parts of Western Connecticut were pummeled by a strong wind and rainstorm overnight that lasted into Christmas Day.
Heavy rain and strong winds pounded the region and knocked out power, sent trees tumbling down, and damaged property across the state.
The Norwalk AutoZone Autoparts Store saw those strong gusts rip off some of the building s siding, but the city escaped any road closures.
New Canaan saw road closures on Weeburn Drive where a downed tree blocked the road snagging power lines and cutting off power to the neighborhood.
