Valley News - Forum, Dec. 26: The Marauder mascot unifies generations of Hanover graduates

Published: 12/25/2020 10:00:22 PM Modified: 12/25/2020 10:00:13 PM The Marauder mascot unifies generations of Hanover graduates It is with horror that I read the article that described how the Hanover High School council is considering transmogrifying our beloved Marauder mascot into a three-toed sloth (“What’s in a name? Hanover High council debating if it’s time to stop being Marauders,” Dec. 20). I was in the eighth grade at the Richmond Middle School in 1986 when this was last considered and I can assure you that it was a humorous joke then. It should be that now. In an email Monday, Martha Ilsley, the nursing home’s temporary administrator, said that of the 68 current residents, 63 have tested positive for COVID-19, and so far, 21 of those have recovered and five have died. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of these families and their friends,” Ilsley said in an email Monday afternoon. Hanover Terrace has also had 27 of its 95 staff test positive, and 12 have recovered and returned to work, Ilsley said. In addition, the state Department of Health and Human Services has sent four registered nurses to assist with staffing. They arrived in Hanover on Monday and will start work Tuesday, providing relief for staff who haven’t been able to take time off.

Richmond educators share favorite holiday memories

In this case, we received nine responses from administrators at Richmond Community Schools. Keith Bartels, principal at Richmond Middle School - Advertisement - One of the Bartels family traditions around the holiday season is to search for that perfect Christmas tree. Each year we spend the day going to varies local tree farms to find our perfect tree. This picture is from last year’s search. We wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Happy holidays to all, the Bartels family. Anthony Birkmeier, dean of students at Richmond Middle School Some of my favorite holiday memories come from my time in schools. The excitement in the air in a school during the holiday season is truly palatable and surely will be missed this with virtual learning this year. As a parent, in class holiday parties are some of the first times I get to see my children interact with all their peers in the school setting. On top of that, it never ceases to amaze me how my children’s teac
