A Los Angeles City Council candidate posted an image of a handgun on his Facebook page last week while describing a dispute involving local Democratic Party activists, prompting one state lawmaker to call for him to drop out of the race.
David Cunningham, who is running against Councilman Curren Price in next year’s election, uploaded the gun image as part of a post in which he accused Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D-Los Angeles) of having members of a slate of Democratic Party delegate candidates threaten him and his family.
“Guess what sir? We can and will defend ourselves from all enemies, foreign and domestic,” Cunningham wrote in his post.
Canyon Country Kidnapping Suspect Returns To Court
A Canyon Country kidnapping suspect appeared in court Tuesday for a restitution hearing for damages incurred when he carjacked his ex-girlfriend and took her vehicle while their 3-month-old twins were inside, officials said.
James O’Neal, 26, was arrested in July 2020 on several different felony charges including carjacking, domestic violence, child abduction without right and false imprisonment, officials said.
O’Neal pleaded no contest to the charges laid against him on Jan. 8, and was sentenced to three years in prison, according to Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Off-Duty LAPD Officer Returns To Court After Brandishing Weapon During Valencia Road Rage Incident
An off-duty police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) appeared in court Tuesday for charges of brandishing a firearm during a Valencia road rage incident last year.
Georgeta Buruiana, 38, faces one felony count of brandishing a firearm at a person in a motor vehicle, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
On Dec. 14, 2019, Buruiana, an off-duty Los Angeles police officer, allegedly brandished the weapon at a motorist who made a U-turn in front of her while they drove near Rye Canyon Road and The Old Road, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
