Woodside, Portola Valley brace for wildfire season

Since the CZU fires, Cal Fire s San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties division, Cal Fire CZU, as well as other county groups have been working on various projects to protect against wildfires. Woodside and Portola Valley have both stepped up their fuel reduction efforts, said Denise Enea, former Woodside Fire Protection District fire marshal and president of Fire Safe San Mateo County, the organization dedicated to protecting property and the environment for county residents in the wildland/urban interface. “It s not just going to be more engines, it’s not just going to be more hand crews, it’s not going to just be more vegetation management, it’s not just going to be prescribed burning, it’s going to be more of everything,” explained Jonathan Cox, deputy chief of Cal Fire CZU, during the April Cal Fire talk, speaking about how the county can prevent a catastrophic wildfire.

Meredith prepares for town meeting March 03, 2021MEREDITH – Town Meeting is on March 9, and town officials are getting ready from putting safety measures in place to making planning some budget changes from the floor. Meredith will hold an in-person town meeting on Wednesday, March 9, at Inter-Lakes High School with several protective measures. Town manager Phil Warren updated the selectmen during Monday s meeting on what town meeting would look like this year. Voting is scheduled for March 9 and will take place with social distancing, masking recommendations, and protective screens for poll workers. Warren said these measures worked well for the elections last year.

Selectmen examine limiting Leavitt Beach parking to residents March 03, 2021MEREDITH – The selectmen are taking a few steps closer to restricting parking at Leavitt Beach to residents only during the peak summer months, aiming for a public hearing in April. Leavitt Beach was getting a surge of use last summer which prompted selectmen to look into making the park residents only. While Waukewan Beach has to remain open to the public because it receives federal funding, Leavitt can be designated for residents only. Town manager Phil Warren told the selectmen during Monday s workshop that he spoke with department heads and there was a general sense that the crowds at Leavitt Beach were an anomaly due to the pandemic. Plans in progress for Shep Brown s improvements

January 13, 2021MEREDITH Plans are underway for dock area improvements at Shep Brown s Boat Basin, with the town planning a public meeting on the project this summer. Town Manager Phil Warren talked with the selectmen about the plans in the works for Shep Brown s during the Jan. 4 meeting. Two of the docks at Shep Browns are owned by the town, while another is owned by Goodhue and Hawkins. Shep Brown s has been working on plans to improve the facility and working closely with the town on a number of aspects. Warren said the plans were around 50 percent completed and it wasn t the goal that night to revue all of them. He did want to let the board know about what was planned so far.
