Lady Eagles no-hit Exeter to win district championship
The Purdy softball teams Class 1, District 5 campaign was a week of three games with similar results, as the Lady Eagles defeated their opponents by a combined score of 44-0 en route to a district title.
Purdy (27-1), the No. 1 ranked team in Class 1, capped the display on Thursday with a 14-0, five-inning no-hitter over Exeter at Miller High School. The Lady Eagles bested Wheaton 15-0 on Monday in three innings, then dispatched of Billings 15-0 on Wednesday, also in three innings.
Wildcats 1-3 in last week
The Cassville baseball team (7-15) picked up one win Saturday but dropped three other contests since April 27. The Wildcats fell to Lamar 8-2, then dropped a road game at Monett on Thursday, 15-2. In the Monett game, lead-off hitter Corey Thomas tripled on the first at-bat of the game, and he was batted in by an Isaac Hadlow single. However, a 6-run second inning from Monett put the game out of reach. On Saturday, the Wildcats ended a five-game skid with a win over Central (Springfield), 10-4. Cassville then lost to Fair Grove, 20-6. The Big 8 Crossover Game is set for Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Ying Quartet Todd Maturazzo
The Ying Quartet has been the guest artist of the Ensemble Music Society of Indianapolis (EMS) many times and they will return to Indianapolis on May 6, for the May Music Festival as arts organizations begin opening for in-person performances after many months in hiatus or offering virtual-only performances.
âThey were the first ensemble to perform at the Basile Theater, the History Centerâs exceptional concert auditorium,â said John Failey, EMS board president.Â
Ying Quartet will perform on May 6 as part of the EMSâs Festival.
âThey were last here in 2015, just before Robin Scott joined the group,â said Failey. âRobin is the son of Sylvia and Beverly Scott, both ISO musicians. With Mothers Day just the next weekend, Robin suggested the program they will play be in honor of his mother; we, of course, said âyes.âÂ
