Discrediting the myth – TCI, dependent or not?

Discrediting the myth – TCI, dependent or not? By Dr. Carlton Mills Dr. Carlton Mills The writings over the years about the relationship between the Turks & Caicos Islands and the Bahamas (1766 – 1848) and (1962 – 1973) and Jamaica (1874 – 1962), tend to give the impression that the Turks & Caicos Islands was a dependency of these two former British Colonies. Nothing is further from the truth. The manner in which the term “dependency’” is portrayed is utterly misleading and a misrepresentation of the actual circumstances at the time. It also gives the impression that the Turks and Caicos Islands could not exist without the assistance by these former colonies.
