The number of active Covid-19 cases has declined across Jharkhand but Ranchi district has more than half of the total active cases in the state. According to the data released by the government at 9pm on Saturday, the number of active cases stood at 576 in Jharkhand after the detection of 49 new cases, 100 recoveries and one casualty. With 31 new cases detected on that day, Ranchi district had 63.25 per cent of the total new cases while the active case count stood at 302, accounting for 52.43 per cent of the total cases in the state. The number of active cases in East Singhbhum district came down to 55 though it recorded one-thirds of the state’s total casualty 356 out of 1,071. Among other districts, Gumla had 39 active cases, Dhanbad 34, Latehar 25, Lohardaga 19, Palamau 15 and Bokaro 14. While the number of active cases in 15 other districts was six or less, Pakur continued to be the only district with not a single active case.

Lalu Prasad Yadav (File photo) RANCHI: Incarcerated RJD chief Lalu Prasad was shifted to AIIMS in New Delhi in an air ambulance on Saturday evening on the recommendation of doctors at Ranchi s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was undergoing treatment while serving prison terms in several fodder scam cases. Accompanied by daughter Misha Bharti, Lalu was wheeled out of RIMS at about 5.15pm and taken to the airport. Lalu’s wife, former Bihar CM Rabri Devi, and younger son and the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, were also on the air ambulance. Inspector general (prisons) Birendra Bhushan said he granted permission to shift Lalu on the basis of the RIMS medical board’s recommendation. The permission is valid for a month and can be extended on the recommendation of the doctors at AIIMS, where he will be treated under police protection, he said.

Coronavirus outbreak: Jharkhand Covid toll past 1,000

The death toll due to Covid-19 crossed the 1,000 mark in Jharkhand on Tuesday night though the number of active cases continued to fall. According to data released by the state government at 9pm on Tuesday, 111,931 positive cases have been detected in Jharkhand so far, out of which there are at 1,578 active cases and 1,001 patients have died. Ranchi district had the maximum number of active cases at 758, that accounted for 48 per cent of the total active cases in the state. Barring East Singhbhum that had 198 active cases on Tuesday night, the rest 22 districts had less than a hundred active cases. Of these 22 districts, four had single-digit active cases. While Pakur district had just 2 active cases, Giridih, Simdega and Jamtara districts had only 6, 9 and 10 cases respectively.
