Farmers holding symbolic chakka jam in Odisha.
BHUBANESWAR: Farmers on Saturday organized symbolic protests for two to three hours by blocking roads at several places across the state protesting farm laws and alleged harassment of farmers in Delhi. Traffic was partially hit at different places including NH16 passing through the capital city.
Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) has blocked the National Highway-16 at Pahal here for over 30 minutes between 12 o’clock and 12.30pm. Traffic movement was affected from both directions. Police urged the protestors to clear the road and the stretch was cleared for vehicular movement later. This outfit has also conducted chakka jam protests at other places of the state.

BHUBANESWAR: Vendors will not be allowed to put up stalls, shops or park pushcarts along the left side of the road connecting Rajmahal Square with AG Square. The decision has been taken to decongest the road.
During busy hours, traffic moves at snail’s pace, particularly in the evening, because hundreds of vendors have set up stalls, narrowing the road.
Also, the left side of the road adjoins the Unit-I vegetable market and hundreds of vehicles are parked along the road. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been trying hard to remove encroachments from the roadside.
“We have started an awareness campaign from Tuesday asking the vendors to move away on their own. After our announcements, if vendors are seen encroaching upon the road, we will carry out an eviction drive without further notice and at any time,” said BMC additional commissioner Abanikanta Patnaik.
