According to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), there are 172 unauthorised layouts in the City. But the BDA has not been able to punish those who formed these layouts without permission. The
Real Estate Regulatory Authority Karnataka (RERA Karnataka) is established to regulate real estate activities but if the number of unauthorized layouts in the City is any indication,
RERA Karnataka is yet to act against those responsible for illegal layouts.

Bangalore Development Authority (
BDA) has developed 64 layouts in the city. The authority issued preliminary notifications to acquire 37,168 acres to develop the layouts and has paid compensation of about Rs 2,000 crore, but is yet utilise more than 1,100 acres.
The BDA had acquired thousands of acres for developing the layouts but did not have details on the number of acres utilised and the number of acres lying unsued even after paying compensation to the landowners for acquiring their land.

The State government has appointed Rajesh Gowda as the Commissioner of Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) after H.R. Mahadev retired from service on Friday. Mr. Gowda will also hold the post of Managing Director, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) as concurrent charge. After taking charge on Friday evening, he held a meeting with BDA Chairman S.R. Vishwanath and other senior officials of the Authority.
