The annual meeting of the Aransas County Partnership Economic Development Corporation (ACPEDC) was held Friday, Jan. 29 at the Rockport Country Club. Members heard featured speakers, including Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Corporation CEO Iain Vasey, Principal of AMSquared, LLC Anne Marie Maloney, and Del Mar College Executive Vice President and COO Lenora Keas. Talking about the Communities As A Start Up (CASU Series) were Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) Director of Coastal Bend Innovations Center Russel Franques, and TAMU-CC Professor and Director of Entrepreneurship Education Kent Byus, PhD.

Through Tuesday, Feb. 2 Aransas County had a historical count of 741 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those 741 cases, 574 have recovered (136 active cases), per reporting from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
This latest report includes 60 more cases, and three additional deaths, compared to the numbers reported in the Jan. 27 edition of this newspaper (from Friday, Jan. 22 report).
The Aransas Projectâs (TAP) legal representative Bryan French of Galveston informed The Rockport Pilot the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has taken action against the Steel Dynamics Steel Mill in Sinton regarding TAPâs contesting Steel Dynamicsâ proposed wastewater discharge permit.
âTCEQ found that Steel Dynamics violated Texas Code by beginning construction of the wastewater treatment plant associated with their steel mill prior to the issuance of a permit by TCEQ,â said French. âSteel Dynamics must cease and desist construction of the wastewater treatment facility until the permit is issued, and report proof of compliance to TCEQ by March 15 (of this year).â
